According to latest reports in the French media, an unknown club has offered €35m for Mainz’s defensive midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin. It is believed that the club could be Arsenal as it was earlier reported that they were monitoring the player’s situation for quite some time now. However, German outfit are not keen on selling the player and they are yet to respond to the latest offer.
With the English transfer window closing early, we can see a flurry of activity in the first week of August. Arsenal are looking for a new beginning under Unai Emery and the Spanish manager has already made some decent acquisitions in the transfer market.
The club is in the market for a defensive midfielder as the London based outfit were defensively poor last season. Granit Xhaka failed to provide the stability in that role and Emery will be a concerned man if they don’t land an out and out defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes.
Gbamin, the Ivory Coast international has slowly gained prominence in world football on the back of some good performances in the Bundesliga last season. He played 31 games for his side last season and kept things tight and ticking in midfield.
The midfielder started his career with French outfit RC Lens and even represented the French national team at various youth levels. However, he opted to play for Ivory Coast at the senior level as he is more likely to get opportunities with the African nation.

The 6ft midfielder is just 22 and has already started showing a lot of promise, however, paying more than €3om for a player who is yet to be tested in the Premier League could turn out to be a risky affair for the Gunners.
