Chelsea have started their domestic campaign with two consecutive victories after successful outings against Huddersfield Town and Arsenal respectively. They have already scored six goals and are firing on all cylinders up top. Even Alvaro Morata, who has struggled a lot with his inconsistent form this year, found the back of the net against the Gunners last weekend, signifying their current good form.
The West London giants will now face a tricky away trip to Newcastle United on Sunday, and if Mauricio Sarri’s men can grind out another victory, then talks of a title challenge are bound to take place amongst the football community.
Another Italian Manager… Another Title Win?
Chelsea’s last manager Antonio Conte won the Premier League title in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, so there is no reason why Sarri cannot repeat the same feat in this campaign.
Although, it won’t be an easy task to keep up with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, who have already laid down the mark at the top of the league standings. The current Chelsea team also seems a bit short when compared to Liverpool and City, but they have a tactical genius at the helm who could choose to grind out results when required.
Keeping Hazard Would Be Key To Success
Sarri has a major battle on his hands to keep Eden Hazard at Stamford Bridge beyond this summer. The English transfer window might be closed, but most European clubs are still looking to use the final few days of their transfer period to strengthen their respective teams. The Belgian international has been linked with La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid in the recent past and so hanging on to him would be essential if the Pensioners are to have a successful season in the top tier of English football.
Can Chelsea Keep Pace With The Title Contenders?
The next few matches would be a real test of this Chelsea team and whether they can keep up with the likes of Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur at the top of the league table. If they are in an ideal position ahead of the busy Christmas period, then there might be some hope of a title challenge.
Otherwise, a more realistic expectation could be a top 3 finish in the Premier League which would be a remarkable achievement on its own.
