Rangers will play hosts to St. Mirren at the Ibrox Stadium tomorrow, looking to get a victory after last weekend’s disappointing draw at Aberdeen. Steven Gerrard knows that his side needs to pick up maximum points from this contest to keep up the pressure on Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership standings.
The Light Blues managed to secure a terrific result in midweek when they defeated Maribor in the Europa League third-round qualifier with a 3-1 scoreline. They will now look to get a similar result against a dogged St. Mirren side.
Gerrard is expected to opt for a 4-3-3 formation and might be forced to make some changes to his team for this match. Graham Dorrans, Jordan Rossiter, Ryan Jack and Lee Wallace will all miss out due to injuries.
The Glaswegian giants have a terrific recent record versus the Saints and have won two of their last three meetings with the Renfrewshire team.
4-3-3 Rangers Predicted Lineup To Face St. Mirren
Defence
Allan McGregor should once again start in between the sticks for the Glaswegian heavyweights while Jak Alnwick has to settle for a place on the bench. The backline should consist of Connor Goldson and Nikola Katić operating as centre-halves. Jon Flanagan again plays as the left-back while James Tavernier takes his place on the right-hand side of the back four.
Both Fabio Cardoso and Lee Hodson might be available on the bench. Steven Gerrard will hope that his defenders can keep it tidy at the back versus their Renfrewshire opponents so that they have a solid platform to go on and earn a victory on the day.
Midfield
The trio of Souleymane Coulibaly, Ross McCrorie, and Scott Arfield could be asked to ply their trade at the centre of the park, and the performance of these players would be integral if the Light Blues are to break down the St. Mirren defence tomorrow. They would be responsible for pressing high up the pitch and win the 50-50 challenges against the Paisley-based outfit.
Josh Windass might be on the bench for this crucial encounter against Alan Stubbs’ team.
Attack
The front three would consist of the Alfredo Morelos spearheading the Gers’ attack while Jamie Murphy looks to work his socks off down the left wing. The on-loan Liverpool winger Ryan Kent might start on the right side of Gerrard’s frontline and would look to register his name on the scoresheet this weekend.
