Liverpool winger Adam Lallana has promised to help his side take down Manchester City in the upcoming campaign. According to the Liverpool Echo, the English talent is backing Jurgen Klopp’s Reds to take ‘the next step’ and compete with City for the English top-flight title next term.
The 30-year-old star reckons that the Reds, having spent £170m during the summer, are well-equipped to challenge on all fronts in the following season. The Merseyside club were on the cusp of European glory last season when they made it through to the Champions League final only to lose at the hands of Real Madrid with a 3-1 scoreline.
Lallana came on in place of the injured Mohamed Salah but struggled to stamp his authority in the game. However, he is now back to full fitness and is looking forward to the prospect of a successful season.
In a recent interview, the England international was quoted to have said, “Of course we are going to be in the pack who want to chase down City,”
“Hopefully Liverpool and three or four of the other top teams can squeeze a few more points out of City this year and that would make it more interesting.
“It’s a really exciting time, I’m delighted to be at a top club like Liverpool that are going to be challenging for trophies again and I’m looking forward to playing for England again.
“For my club, I just want to take the next step now. We have been in a few finals that we haven’t been victorious in and that needs to change.
“We’ve got all the ingredients there – the experience we have gained and the squad we have put together. The signs are really good for us to go the next step.”

The Reds star will now be hoping to leave his injury concerns behind and push on to help his team compete for some major silverware next season. The Merseyside giants have already registered victories over Manchester City and Manchester United during their pre-season participation in the International Champions Cup and will now hope to carry their good form into the new campaign.
