Wolves are reportedly plotting an ambitious move for Colombian midfielder, Juan Fernando Quintero. The 25-year-old is being linked with Real Madrid as well but the super agent, Jorge Mendes is trying to work out a deal to bring the player to the Molineux.
Quintero has caught the eyes of quite a few European outfits by excelling on the international stage. He has played a key part next to James Rodriguez in Colombia’s 2018 World Cup campaign. He scored once and set up 2 assists to take his country through to the knockout stages, set to face England on Monday.
Quintero has also been a standout performer while on a short loan spell with River Plate this past season. He made 16 appearances and was directly involved in 4 goals. The Argentine outfit signed him from FC Porto this January and already has a buyback clause in place.
The club’s president, Rodolfo D’Onofrio said, “River fans stay calm, that’s not true about Real Madrid. Nothing has come to River. Everything is already set. It is already stipulated how the amount we have to pay (to Porto) will be paid, so there is no financial problem because we can give the ok now and in a few months we will have to pay.”
This might not be the final say over Quintero’s future with the number of eyes monitoring the attacking midfielder’s prospects currently. An offer will also be hard for River Plate to turn down as we have seen clubs make a sizeable profit simply by being the middleman in a three-way trade.
If the Wanderers are to express serious interests in the near future or the player requests for a trade away from the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti, the Hens would understandably charge a tidy sum in the present market conditions.
Quintero is best suited to the attacking midfield position but can feature from the wing positions as well. The 25-year-old was born in Medellin and started out in the youth ranks of Envigado. He made 40 appearances for the club before making his switch to Atletico Nacional.
Quintero hit the ground running on his arrival to the Estadio Atanasio Girardot and immediately drew the eyes of European scouts and was asked out on loan by Pescara. He was signed by FC Porto in August 2013 and made to play in 64 of the club’s senior games.

The midfielder registered 7 goals and 11 assists but could not really break into the first team. However, now he is finally coming into his own and could add a different dynamic to the newly promoted Wolves side.
