Ghanaian youngster Joseph Anang has signed his first professional contract with English club West Ham United.
After spending a year with the Hammers’ youth set-up, the future does seem bright for the youngster. However, he is still quite some way off from challenging the likes of experienced shot-stopper Adrian Castillo and Fabianski for a place between the sticks. A deal which runs till 2021 sees him sign a three-year contract with the East London based club.
“Today is a very proud day for me. It has been a long time coming for me but 100 per cent, everything I have worked for so far has been worth it for this day,” Anang said.
A newcomer into the fast and physical demands of the English game, it will be interesting to see what Joseph Anang can offer to not only the West Ham United supporters but to the entire Premier League in general.
“For me, I have just concentrated on doing that, working hard and doing my job and seeing what happens. So to sign today is a great day for me and I’m very proud.”
Anang is tall, physically strong, has good reflexes and is a commanding presence in the 6-yard area, and has all the characteristics which already give him an edge to be a success in the game.
Joe Hart and Adrian have not quite lived up to their known standards last season and sorting out their goalkeeping options is something West Ham United must immediately do. Perhaps now is a good time to step up and be a leading role in the development of Joseph Anang as a reliable goalkeeper who West Ham can put their faith in.
“It hasn’t been easy for me. From when I came to West Ham and every day since then, I have worked very hard.”
Yes, hard work with a strong mentality will be key to his development if he dreams of being a future star. But for now, he needs to continue his development with the youth and senior squad, pay attention to the advice he receives and block out all unnecessary distractions which will hamper his growth.
Young footballers these days tend to get easily carried away and distracted by the world around them. Especially with the continuous growth of social media, Anang will have to be aware of any negative criticism that will come his way. It is purely up to him how he deals with his critics in the near future.
