West Ham United have completed the signing of Andriy Yarmolenko from Borussia Dortmund this summer. According to recent reports, the Hammers have already sealed a move to bring the Ukranian international to the London Stadium on Wednesday. The club has confirmed on their official website that the Ukranian has penned a four-year contract.
The Ukranian playmaker signed for Dortmund from Dynamo Kiev last summer after spending 11 years at his nation’s capital. The 28-year-old had made 36 appearances for Dortmund last season, scoring 10 goals while grabbing 9 assists in all competitions. In a recent interview, Yarmolenko expressed his delight and was quoted to have said, “The team wants to achieve high things and I am excited for this challenge,”
“The Premier League is the best in the world and I know an interesting project is being built at West Ham.”
The European prospect is also Ukraine’s second highest goal-getter behind Andriy Shevchenko with a record of 35 goals in 77 international caps during his career. The Leningrad-born wide man is exactly the kind of talent who has all the attributes to thrive under the expert stewardship of Manuel Pellegrini at the London Stadium.
The East London giants were able to attain a 13th placed finish in the top tier of English football last season. West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini will now look to rebuild his squad in this ongoing transfer period in order to bring in some promising players who can help his club challenge for top honours next term.
The addition of Yarmolenko will undoubtedly bolster Pellegrini’s attacking options ahead of the new season. The Hammers side has some talented wide men in their ranks such as Manuel Lanzini, Robert Snodgrass, Marko Arnautović and Jordan Hugill vying for a place in Pellegrini’s first XI. The potential acquisition of Yarmolenko will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Hammers squad.

The Ukranian prospect is quite versatile and primarily operates as a right winger but can also be deployed in the number 10 position or as a centre-forward up top which makes him a perfect fit for Pellegrini’s team. At 28, the Ukranian playmaker has his best years ahead of him which West Ham could look to benefit from, in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Yarmolenko and whether his time at the East London club turns out to be a success.
