West Ham United have managed to land one of the most decorated managers in the history of the Premier League in Manuel Pellegrini, who has replaced David Moyes from the previous season. The former Manchester City manager is now desperate to improve the quality of the squad at London Stadium and has been linked with some of the finest stars in Europe recently.
He is determined to improve certain areas of the squad and English midfielder Jack Wilshere is high on his wish list, as he prepares to upgrade on his midfield.
The 26-year old joined Arsenal’s academy in 2001 as a kid and broke into the first team as a teenager back in 2008. He was highly regarded by Arsene Wenger, who gave him his debut as a 16-year old as Wilshere stands as Arsenal’s youngest ever debutant, a record that was previously held by Cesc Fabregas.
The midfielder managed to make an immediate impact at the highest stage, showing his prowess in the Champions League but slowly, he seemed to have lost his spark and was sent out on loan to Bolton Wanderers, two years after making his debut at the Emirates.
The English talent has failed to hit the heights that he once promised at the start of his career so Wenger started to look elsewhere, adding the likes of Francis Coquelin, Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey, who all pushed Wilshere down the pecking order.
He was sent out on loan to Bournemouth the season before last and Wilshere seemed to have picked up some form, earning a place back in the first team at the Emirates last season. However, he managed just two goals and five assists in all competitions last term, which was incidentally the final year of his contract with the club.
Wilshere stalled on a contract extension under Wenger and then decided to leave as a free agent, having held unproductive talks with new Arsenal manager, Unai Emery. Wilshere is worried about his playing time and is now ready to choose his next club.
He has offers from clubs in Turkey while Pellegrini’s West Ham United have registered their interest in him this summer. And reports now claim that the Hammers have opened talks with the player and his agent, to try and sign him up on a three-year deal. The wages he demands have priced out a few clubs in England but Pellegrini is ready to do what it takes to land him this summer.

With the likes of Chiekhou Kouyate and Mark Noble standing as the best midfielder at his disposal, the Chilean manager is desperate to add some creativity to his midfield and Wilshere fits the bill well. As a free agent, he is certainly worth the risk, as his previous experience in the country will allow him to walk into the first team at West Ham. But do you think Wilshere is the right man for the Hammers?
