West Bromwich Albion are looking to secure the signature of Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood this summer. According to recent reports, the Baggies are preparing to seal a move for the Owls goalie during this summer transfer period. It is understood that West Brom manager Darren Moore is looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer window comes to a close next month and Westwood fits the bill perfectly.
Some sources have recently claimed that the West Midlands side are among a whole host of clubs looking to recruit the Republic of Ireland international this summer. The 33-year-old was previously linked with Cardiff City but a deal had failed to materialise after the two clubs were unable to agree on a fee for the player.
Westwood is vastly experienced in the second tier of English football having featured in 270 matches in the EFL Championship while keeping 82 clean sheets during his career so far. If given the chance to ply his trade at the Hawthorns, he can rise to the occasion and put in some awe-inspiring displays at the highest level.
The veteran keeper is exactly the kind of talent who can flourish under the guidance of Moore if given an opportunity to ply his trade at the West Midlands club in the coming weeks. However, at the age of 33, the Owls shot-stopper won’t be a long-term solution to take up the goalkeeping duties for West Brom and will only be a temporary fix at that position.
The Baggies had a nightmare campaign last term as they were relegated from the English first division after finishing rock bottom of the league table. Moore needs to rebuild his squad this summer if his players are to mount a challenge for one of the promotion spots in the upcoming campaign.
The addition of Westwood will definitely improve Moore’s goalkeeping options ahead of the new season. The West Midlands outfit have some promising keepers in their squad such as Sam Johnstone, Jonathan Bond and Alex Palmer who are all competing for a place in goal at the Hawthorns.

The potential acquisition of Westwood will undoubtedly bolster their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Baggies squad. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of the Republic of Ireland shot-stopper and whether he ends up sealing a move to West Brom before the start of the new season. However, we don’t think that this move would be the best option for Moore. Our honest opinion would be to focus on other areas of the squad.
