Jack Rodwell was one of the brightest stars to come out of Everton and was touted to be a future England regular. However, his career has taken a downward spiral after he moved away from Manchester City. The player recently terminated his contract with Sunderland and is currently without any club.
He had earlier mentioned that there is a chance that he might go to MLS or Italy to continue his footballing career, however, he can be given a lifeline in the Premier League as Watford have shown an interest in signing the 27-year-old midfielder.
The Englishman cancelled the £73,000 a week contract with the Black Cats with mutual consent. He has been invited by Watford to train with them as Javi Gracia assesses him. Rodwell has represented England at various youth level and even has three senior caps. Though, like Sunderland, his career has nosedived since then. He is still 27 so he should be in the prime of his career and given the experience he has of the Premier League, he still can go on to represent a top division club.
He even has a Premier League medal with Manchester City, but the managerial changes at the Etihad didn’t help the Englishman to establish himself.
Rodwell is a defensive midfielder who helps his team out at the back and keep things moving in midfield. He can still be a decent bet for Gracia if he can help the player find his former self. His game has gone down a notch or two just like the Black Cats and Watford will be wary before making a move for him in the transfer market.
The Hornets endured a tough second half of the season as they were almost dragged in a relegation battle after a brilliant start under Marco Silva. The pressure will be on Javi Gracia to deliver with the results in the upcoming season and try to establish the Hornets as a top half club.

The Spanish tactician has two decent options in the defensive midfield role in Etienne Capoue and Nathaniel Chalobah, so it is likely that Rodwell will be used more as a squad player. However, if Gracia is able to bring out the best in him, then the Englishman can go on to become a starter at the club. It looks like the player is way past his best just at 27 and it will be tough for him to get back to the level required in the Premier League. Do you think he is a decent addition for Watford?
