According to French media outlets, Tottenham Hotspur have contacted the representatives of FC Girondins de Bordeaux winger, Malcom for a probable transfer this very summer. Some would believe that the possibility of a trade had died down with just a month left in the transfer window but Spurs have reignited their interest in the highly talented Ligue 1 attacker.
Malcom is a product of the Corinthians youth academy where he played in 54 senior team games and registered 7 goals and 5 assists. On completion of his early footballing development at the Brasileiro Série A, Malcom signed with Bordeaux on 31 January 2016 for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Ever since his arrival to Matmut Atlantique, the Brazilian started to impress many with his incredible skills and attacking talents. He took the Ligue 1 by storm, scoring 12 goals in 38 games last term while also adding a further 8 assists.
Such was his impact for the Girondins that Malcom was contacted over a transfer by quite a few of the Premier League big guns in the January window alone. The club’s president declined all bids and was unwilling to entertain any offers before the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
Bordeaux have set an asking price which is ten times to the original value they paid for Malcom, 18 months back – £45m. Most of his potential suitors have put off after hearing the player’s real value in the market, leaving Tottenham with an open shot at the talented winger.
Standing at just 5 feet 8 inches, Malcom is one of those modern-day wingers who will leave you in the dust if given the space to express himself. The Brazilian has bags of skill under those mercurial feet of his and the pace to go along with it.
At 21, he is still settling into the rhythm of the European top-flight but has shown the potential to one day become a star for his country. Malcom has just 15 caps so far for the Brazil U20 and U23 side and will have to improve his club performances to one day appear next to Neymar and Philippe Coutinho.
Getting the Premier League spotlight will certainly help him in that chase and Tottenham will be rewarded with the services of a highly ambitious frontman.
