According to latest reports, Tottenham Hotspur have made a €50m bid for Borussia Dortmund‘s winger Christian Pulisic. The 19-year-old has been a long-term target for various Premier League heavyweights and now even Spurs have joined the bandwagon to sign the player.
Spurs will be looking to end their trophy drought next season as they look to achieve something meaningful with this golden generation of theirs. Mauricio Pochettino’s side has fallen short on crunch situations in the last campaign and will be hoping that the team have learned a valuable lesson from the experience.
For the creative outlet, Spurs are heavily dependent on Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen who play in a central role but their squad is still lacking some out and out wide men. One can term Lucas Moura as the only natural winger in the team so Pulisic will certainly be a handy addition to Tottenham’s roster.
The American winger is currently known as one of the biggest talents in European football and he broke into Dortmund’s senior team when he was just 17. He has slowly gone on to establish himself in the side now that he is 19. The Dortmund star has managed a healthy tally of 12 goals and 20 assists in 97 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.
Pulisic is a versatile player which allows him to play in the no.10 role as well. He has a certain directness to his game and isn’t shy of taking on the defenders. He has brisk pace under his feet which allows him to beat defenders and on top of it, his dribbling skills are also worth mentioning as it enables him to wriggle out of tight spaces.
He still needs to improve his game further though as he sometimes falls prey to youthful naivety. He often gets into great positions but makes the wrong decisions in the final third. His club and country will certainly want him to contribute more on the goal front and that is some of the areas which the player can improve upon.
Given the fact that he is just 19, he is yet to realise his full potential and maybe someone like Pochettino might be able to bring the best out of him. We have often seen young players flourish under him over the past few years. Though it will be tough for the youngster to break into the first eleven straight away as we often see Spurs play with three attacking midfielders and at the moment Heung-Min Son, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen are nailed on starters.
