Newcastle United‘s target Alassane Plea could be stolen from right under their noses as Tottenham Hotspur has joined the race to sign the French striker. The Ligue 1 outfit Nice values the player at £27m and it was believed that the Magpies offered £20m for him. However, as expected, the French club rejected the offer and that has opened the door for other clubs to jump in for the striker.
Spurs are likely to look for a backup option to Harry Kane who has been outstanding for them in the past few seasons. Mauricio Pochttino already has Fernando Llorente as an option so it will be interesting to see whether the player will make a move to White Hart Lane knowing the fact that he will have to really fight for regular game time.
The 25-year-old managed 21 goals in all competitions last season and seems destined for big things in the future. The player started his career with French heavyweight Lyon, however, he failed to establish himself with them. He later made a move to Nice where he has found his feet and goal-scoring prowess.
It’s being reported that some Bundesliga outfit are also after the striker, however, the player prefers a move to the Premier League. It’s also being said that the player wants to play under Rafael Benitez but both clubs haven’t been able to crack a deal for the player so far.
We have seen the Magpies being ineffective in the transfer market over the past few years and that could mean they could miss out on their target yet again.
Spurs meanwhile can now really be counted as a Premier League heavyweight, however, they are still searching for some silverware. Pochettino will know that he will need to deliver something substantial with this golden generation of theirs and he will be looking to add reinforcements to the squad for the upcoming season to achieve that.

It seems highly unlikely that Plea will find game time at the North London Club. It might very well happen that the Frenchman could be used down the left wing as he has played there for Nice sometimes last season. Llorente is set to enter in the final year of his contract and it is possible that Spurs will renew the contract of the 33-year-old Spanish striker. Plea can be a long-term prospect for Pochettino but the question remains whether the player will be satisfied with a sporadic role in the team for now?
