According to latest reports, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in former Barcelona fullback Alejandro Grimaldo. The 22-year-old currently plies his trade for the Portuguese outfit Benfica and he played regularly for them in the last campaign as he made 37 appearances in all competitions.
Apart from Spurs, there has been an interest from German outfit Borussia Dortmund for the player. The reports suggest that Dortmund had already made a bid but they weren’t able to match Benfica’s valuation of the player. Even Tottenham have launched a bid as reported but it has once again fallen way short of Benfica’s valuation of the Spanish full-back. It is expected that the North London club will come back with a better offer for the player.
Spurs are likely to part ways with Danny Rose and he has been linked with various clubs in recent times. The English international’s relationship with the Tottenham board and management team has strained over the course of time and it is likely that they won’t mind letting the 28-year-old leave in the summer transfer window.
That would leave Mauricio Pochettino with one viable left back option in Ben Davies and it is likely that they will get another left back in the summer transfer market.
Grimaldo is a typical modern day full back as he is adept at going forward as well as while defending. His pace makes him a difficult customer to handle down the left and he is very effective at going past defenders as well. He certainly can work more on the defensive side of his game but the 22-year-old has shown huge potential while playing for the Portuguese giants.
Spurs will be looking to challenge for some major titles as Mauricio Pochettino is aware that he needs to deliver silverware to make this golden generation of Tottenham players count. Davies is an established left back but Pochettino will know that they will need depth in their squad as they have to challenge in various competitions including the Premier League.

Grimaldo has represented Spain at various youth levels and is touted to be a future Spanish international so Spurs will definitely have a good talent at their disposal if they manage to sign him. However, there have been reports that they are looking to sign Celtic fullback Kieran Tierney and it is likely that they will only go after one of the left backs. It remains to be seen what option will the Argentine tactician go after.
