Tottenham Hotspur are looking to secure the services of Getafe centre-back Djene Dakonam this summer. According to recent reports, Spurs are hoping to seal a move for the Togolese defender during this summer transfer window. It is understood that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking to add more quality to his squad in the final few weeks of this transfer period and Djene fits the bill perfectly.
The 26-year-old joined Getafe from Sint-Truiden last year and had a brilliant campaign at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. The Togo international has put in a number of commanding displays for the Spanish outfit during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs.
Some sources have already revealed that Djene has a €35m release clause in his current contract with Getafe which is set to expire in the summer of 2023. Hence, José Bordalás’ team will be under no pressure to sell unless Spurs are willing to match his release clause.
Djene had featured in 36 matches for Getafe last season and has one goal to his name across all competitions. At 26, he has also earned 32 international caps for the Togolese national team during his playing career so far. The Getafe defender is exactly the kind of player who can thrive under Pochettino if given the chance to prove himself at White Hart Lane next season.
The North London giants had another solid campaign last term when they were able to ease into a 3rd placed finish in the English top tier. Pochettino should now look to bring in some quality players during this window so that his side has a better opportunity of winning some major trophies in the upcoming campaign.
The addition of Djene will undoubtedly bolster Pochettino’s defensive options at White Hart Lane. Spurs have a whole host of defensive enforcers such as Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth competing for a starting berth in their first XI. The potential acquisition of Djene will add more competition for places within the Tottenham squad and improve their team a lot going into the new season.

At 26, the Togolese defender still has his best years ahead of him which the North London outfit could look to capitalise on, over the next few years. The Getafe defender is also quite versatile and primarily plays as a centre-back but can also be deployed as a right-back which makes him an ideal fit for Pochettino’s Spurs. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Djene and whether he ends up playing at White Hart Lane next season.
