According to latest reports, Liverpool are surprisingly interested in making a move for Swansea City forward Jordan Ayew. The Welsh outfit are looking to offload some of their highest earning stars to free up the wage budget and want to generate funds so that they can invest somewhere else. Graham Potter has been handed over the baton of the club after they got relegated to the Championship.
The 26-year-old won’t certainly mind if Liverpool comes calling for him, however, if the Swans are serious about getting back to the Premier League straight away, Ayew can be a crucial player for them upfront. Last season, they had Tammy Abraham who shared the burden of goal scoring with the Ghanian but now Abraham has gone back to his parent club Chelsea after the loan spell.
The experienced Wilfried Bony is being linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium so that will leave the club short on attacking options if they allow even Ayew to leave. Maybe Potter has some replacements in mind but going without a settled striker in the upcoming season is a recipe for disaster.
Swansea were the joint lowest scorers last term as they managed just 28 goals in their entire league campaign. That will be the biggest cause of worry for Potter as he tries to find goals from his side. Ayew was the most prolific of the Swans strikers as he managed to score seven goals in the league and 11 overall.
One doesn’t see how and where he will fit into the Liverpool team given the attacking options they have. Their front three of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are irreplaceable at the moment. The likes of Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings, Dominic Solanke, Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster will all be waiting in the wings to get first-team opportunities. It is expected that some of the players from that list will move away from the club but even then, Ayew will struggle to get any game time at Anfield.

The move might be tempting for the player as he will be getting a chance to be around one of the best teams in the world currently along with that, he will have an opportunity to be part of the Champions League. However, the Swans shouldn’t let him slip away as they will need his services desperately to catapult them back to the Premier League.
