Swansea City have moved a step closer towards sealing a move for Sunderland frontman Joel Asoro this summer. According to recent reports, the Swans have agreed on a fee with the Black Cats over the transfer of the Swedish forward during this summer transfer period. It is believed that Asoro has recently revealed his desire to leave the Stadium of Light in this post-season following the club’s relegation from the Championship at the end of last season.
Some sources are now claiming that the Welsh outfit’s £2m bid has been accepted by the League One club which will see the Swedish starlet make a move to the Liberty Stadium ahead of the new season. The 19-year-old came through the youth ranks in Sweden before his switch to Sunderland and he is well known to the Swans manager Graham Potter and his backroom staff.
Asoro will become the first signing of Potter’s reign at the Welsh club. He had featured in 29 matches for the Black Cats last season, scoring 3 goals while grabbing 2 assists in all competitions. At 19, the Swede still has a lot of time to develop and take his game to the next level. He is exactly the kind of talent who can flourish under the guidance of a young and bright manager like Potter at the Liberty Stadium.
The Welsh club had a disastrous campaign last term when they were relegated from the English top-flight. Hence, Graham Potter was appointed as the new manager and now, it will be up to him to make some clever additions in this window which will help the club earn a promotion back to the top tier next year.
The addition of Asoro will undoubtedly bolster Potter’s attacking options going into the new campaign. Swansea have some top forwards in their ranks such as Andre Ayew, Wilfried Bony, Jordan Ayew and Oliver McBurnie vying for a place in Potter’s starting XI. The potential signing of Asoro will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Swans squad.
The Swedish striker is just 19-years-old and has the potential to become a future star in English football. The Welsh outfit can provide him with the opportunity to test his talents in the Championship once again which is why it is a move that can benefit everyone involved. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Asoro and whether his time at the Liberty Stadium turns out to be a success.
