West Bromwich Albion are on the verge of sealing a move for Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley this summer amidst speculation linking him with a switch to Leeds United. According to recent reports, the Baggies were interested in securing the services of the English centre-back during this summer transfer window and they have now agreed personal terms with the player.
Reports are also claiming that Bartley is undergoing a medical at West Brom. The 27-year-old had featured in just 12 matches for the Welsh side last season which could have left him frustrated. Hence, a move away from the Liberty Stadium is likely to be his only solution at the moment as he looks to earn more first-team opportunities in the coming years.
He is exactly the kind of defender who can be a success at the Hawthorns, especially if a manager like Darren Moore shows faith in his abilities. It remains to be seen how successful Bartley is in reigniting his career at West Brom.
The Peacocks had a forgetful campaign last term when they only managed to attain a 13th placed finish in the second tier of English football. The appointment of Marcelo Bielsa this summer has raised a lot of their spirits going into the season. However, Bielsa still needs to recruit wisely in this ongoing transfer period if his team are to challenge for a playoff spot in the upcoming campaign.
The potential acquisition of Bartley would have definitely bolstered Bielsa’s defensive options at Elland Road. Leeds United have some talented defenders such as Pontus Jansson, Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling vying for a place at the heart of Bielsa’s defence. A player of Bartley’s experience would have undoubtedly improved their team significantly and added more competition for places within the Peacocks squad.

At 27, the English centre-back still has his best years ahead of him which is why the West Yorkshire giants should make a move for him this summer. It was definitely a big mistake by Bielsa to let West Brom make a swoop of Bartley from right under their noses going into the new season. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Bartley.
