Sunderland are hoping to seal a loan move for Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack this summer. According to recent reports, the Black Cats are hoping to secure the signature of the Scottish centre-forward during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the League One side are on the lookout for a new forward in this off-season and they have set their sights on a loan move for the Villa talent.
Some sources are now claiming that McCormack is not part of Steve Bruce’s plans at Villa Park which could pave the way for a loan switch to the Stadium of Light. The veteran forward has struggled to get any game time at the West Midlands club during the second half of last season.
However, he had a productive loan spell with Melbourne City in the Australian top-flight last year when he found the back of the net 13 times in 15 matches. Ironically, the Black Cats were one of the clubs interested in his signature in January but a move failed to materialize back then.
The Scottish veteran is exactly the kind of talent who can thrive under the guidance of Jack Ross if given the opportunity to showcase his talents for the Wearside club. McCormack still has the potential to top the scoring charts in League One next term so Sunderland should do everything in their power to bring him to the Stadium of Light this summer.
The Black Cats had a disastrous campaign last term when they were relegated from the English Championship after finish rock bottom of the league table. Ross now has the job to rebuild his squad this summer so that his side has a good chance to claim a promotion back to the second tier of English football.
The temporary addition of McCormack will undoubtedly bolster Ross’ attacking options ahead of the new season. Sunderland have the likes of Chris Maguire, Josh Maja and Andrew Nelson vying for a place in their starting XI. The potential acquisition of McCormack will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Black Cats squad.
