Stoke City have sealed a move for Bournemouth keeper Adam Federici this summer. According to the club’s official website, the Potters have snapped up their third signing of the summer as they completed a move to bring the Australian goalie to the bet365 Stadium during this summer transfer window.
The 33-year-old shot-stopper has penned a two-year contract with the Staffordshire club. He will definitely strengthen Gary Rowett’s team following their second-choice keeper, Lee Grant’s exit from the club in favour of a move to Manchester United.
Federici becomes the Potters’ third signing of the summer after the arrivals of Nigerian international Oghenekaro Etebo and Congolese striker Benik Afobe at the bet365 Stadium ahead of the new campaign. It is understood that Stoke were on the lookout for a new second-choice keeper and Federici fits the bill perfectly.
In a recent interview, Stoke manager Gary Rowett expressed his delight and was quoted to have said, “Adam is a player with bags of experience, with Reading notably and Bournemouth as well.
“He’s an excellent professional, great trainer and a very good goalkeeper who we see as one of three senior keepers who need to be pushing each other. I’m really pleased that we have been able to bring him into the Club.”
The Australian international moved to England in 2003 when he signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers but he came to prominence with Reading. He spent 10 years with the Royals, featuring in more than 200 league matches during his time at the Madejski Stadium.
He sealed a move to Bournemouth in the summer of 2015 and made eight top-flight appearances for them. Federici has earned 16 international caps for his nation Australia and has also represented his country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The acquisition of Federici will definitely bolster Rowett’s goalkeeping options ahead of the new season. Stoke City have the likes of Jack Butland and Jakob Haugaard vying for a place in their starting XI. The addition of Federici will undoubtedly improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Potters squad.

He is exactly the kind of player who wouldn’t mind playing second-fiddle to Jack Butland if the English keeper ends up staying at the Staffordshire club beyond this summer. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Federici and whether his time at the bet365 Stadium turns out to be a success.
