After a rather comfortable outing in the Championship last season, that saw them lift the league title, Wolves are now a team to watch out for in the Premier League next season. They have a strong squad at their disposal and can compete with the best next season but it will be crucial for Nuno Espirito Santo to make sure that their star players in the squad stay put.
There are a number of impressive players currently in the squad at Molineux, who were at the top of their game last season. One such player, who has now signed a new deal with the club is Ruben Neves.
Born and brought up in Mozelos, Portugal, the 21-year-old started his senior career with FC Porto and spent three years at the club, slowly learning the game. He stepped up his game in his final season at the club, showing enough promise for clubs across Europe to show interest in him last summer.
The then second-tier outfit Wolves managed to win the race for his signature and had to pay close to £16m, which is a transfer record in the Championship. Neves took no time to make an impact in the league, playing in the deepest of the midfield roles for Santo and controlling the game in front of him.
He is a confident youngster with great technical ability and an even better understanding of the game. His consistency makes him all the more dangerous. It is expected tha he should finish as one of the top-5 defensive midfielders in the Premier League next season.
The Portuguese sensation was the Players’ and the Supporters’ Player of the Season for the 2017-18 campaign and was also a part of the Championship Team Of the Season. He is easily one of the best players in his position in the country and is a huge asset for Wolves.
He has five appearances for the national side but was overlooked for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. However, he remains one of the most important players for Santo ahead of the new season. The club has already signed the likes of Rui Patricio and Raul Gimenez this summer and does not seem done. However, they have now announced that Neves has pledged his future to the club, signing a new long-term deal.

He was already attracting interest from clubs like Liverpool but Wolves have now made a statement by tying him down to a new contract. All of his six goals last season were absolute screamers so he will certainly light up the Premier League as well next term. So this contract extension might be the best news for Wolves this summer.
