Danny Ings’ career hasn’t blossomed as expected at Liverpool and that has largely been due to various long-term injuries which the player has faced. Ings was a prolific scorer for Burnley which pushed Brendan Rodgers in making a move for him. However, under Jurgen Klopp, he has failed to establish himself in the first eleven.
Ings is just 25, so he has good years ahead of him and he might be looking for a move away from the club in the summer in search of greener pastures. Reportedly, Southampton have shown an interest in signing the Liverpool striker who has been linked with other Premier League clubs as well.
It’s believed that Mark Hughes is keen on bringing in the striker and if reports are to be believed then they are willing to pay £10m for him. However, Liverpool want a fee of £20m for Ings, so it will be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club will let the striker leave for anything less than the stipulated amount.
One cannot blame the Saints as Ings has a lot of question marks towards his game after his return from injury. He played just 8 games in the Premier League and a move away from Anfield looks more and more likely. It’s being reported that the Saints have taken the lead in signing the Liverpool striker as they have lodged an official bid for the player.
Ings is a hard-working striker and is willing to make those runs in between the defensive lines. At Burnley, he had his best years and managed 43 goals and 14 assists in 130 appearances. The Englishman has even made one senior team appearance for England but looks far off from playing for the Three Lions again.
The Saints survived in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth as they finished 17th and won the crucial encounter against fellow relegation-threatened Swansea City. The team struggled to score goals freely and Mark Hughes will be aware that he will need a proven goal scorer. Charlie Austin has been their most threatening striker, however, the Englishman missed a good chunk of the season due to injuries the last term. In his absence, Manolo Gabbiadini was found wanting.

This can be a big decision for Hughes as one still doesn’t know whether Ings will be able to get back to his best. At Liverpool, Klopp preferred Dominic Solanke as a backup option over the 25-year-old Englishman. Ings has all the facets to his game to succeed at a club like Southampton and a move away from Anfield might be the right decision for all parties involved.
