At 19 years of age, most footballers can only dream of what French sensation Kylian Mbappe has achieved during his quick sprint to the summit of world football. Already a household name and key figure in the French National team, it would not come as a surprise that the biggest clubs in football are chasing the signature of the marquee player. Despite being hot property, Real Madrid have made an official announcement that they do not plan to pursue the teenager.
This comes as a surprise to most, as Mbappe was widely seen as a direct replacement for Footballing superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Most saw this deal as possible, considering the vast sources of riches the club has to offer. Madrid have the money to spend and purchasing Mbappe would not have been an issue for them.
Being a cash-laden super club, however, does come with certain responsibilities. Keeping UEFA’s Financial Fair Play Regulations in mind is perhaps the only obstacle blocking the way for Real to capture Kylian Mbappe.
The rule laid down by Europe’s governing body states that no team will be allowed to spend more than what they earn. The penalty for breach of these rules will lead to the club/clubs being banned from participating in European competitions and/or a suitable ban from taking part in the transfer market.
Paris Saint-Germain are treading on thin ice at the moment. Their capture of Samba star Neymar and Mbappe last season has seen them in breach of the Financial Fair Play or FFP rules. If PSG were able to bend the rules, then holding on to Mbappe would be viewed as a smart decision.
If they are to challenge for UEFA’s grandest prize and subsequently continue their domination over the French top division, Mbappe along with Edinson Cavani would be able to provide PSG with exactly that. Score goals for fun and bag the prizes which are up for grabs.
If UEFA does intervene and bring PSG’s success party to a hasty halt, they would have to part ways with Mbappe. Even that seems to have its fair share of controversy as making a decision on how to part ways with the youngster would not be as easy as it seems. PSG would have to reduce his market value in order for other clubs to purchase the player without breaching of the FFP rule.
Money, to an extent, does bring happiness. Money to a larger extent comes with its own share of negativity and turmoil.
