Rangers have been tipped to make a move for Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke this summer. According to recent reports, the Gers are looking to secure the services of the English frontman on a loan deal during this summer transfer period. It is understood that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is looking to add another attacking option to his side and Solanke fits the bill perfectly.
Some sources have already claimed that the Teddy Bears are interested to seal a loan move for the Reds forward in the coming weeks before the transfer window slams shut next month. Rangers legend Derek Johnstone has backed the move and recently wrote a piece in the Glasgow Evening Times stating, “We will see another forward coming into the club. I’m not sure if they will buy anyone but they might look to get someone in on loan.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Steven goes back to Liverpool to try and get someone like Dominic Solanke or uses his contacts down south to try and get a player up here on loan.”
Solanke had found first-team opportunities limited at the Merseyside club last season. The Basingstoke-born centre-forward had featured in 21 matches for the Reds in the last campaign, scoring one goal while grabbing one assist. The 20-year-old has also represented his country, England, at every youth category from the Under-16 level onwards and is considered by many as one of the most promising young talents in England. Although, Solanke has mostly been subject to appearances from the bench under Jurgen Klopp so far, yet a temporary switch away from Anfield could benefit his career in the long-run. The Reds wonderkid is exactly the kind of talent who can thrive under Gerrard if given regular first-team opportunities at the Ibrox Stadium next term.
The Gers had a forgetful season last term but is looking to take a step in the right direction with Gerrard at the helm. The English manager needs to bring in a few more pieces in the coming weeks to complete his Rangers jigsaw going into the new campaign.
The potential acquisition of Solanke will undoubtedly improve Gerrard’s attacking options at the Ibrox Stadium. Rangers have some talented frontmen such as Alfredo Morelos, Jamie Murphy and Umar Sadiq vying for a place in the Teddy Bears’ starting XI. The temporary addition of Solanke will definitely bolster their attack significantly and add more competition for places within Gerrard’s squad.
