Rangers‘ young midfielder Liam Burt has signed a new one-year extension at the club which was confirmed by the club on their official twitter account and it seems like the youngster has done enough to warrant a new contract at the Ibrox. Burt had spent the second half of last season on loan to Dumbarton and had made 19 appearances for them.
The 19-year-old has been with the Gers since 2014 and has slowly gone up the ranks towards senior team football. However, he needs more time to get close to the first team as he has only made 3 appearances for them so far.
The Scottish starlet has represented his country at various youth levels and is touted to be a future Scottish international. He captained Scotland at the UEFA European u-17 Championships and has been impressive at the youth level as of now. However, he needs to take the next big step and will aim to slowly establish himself at the Ibrox Stadium.
It’s going to be tough for the midfielder to break into the senior squad and the Gers have already signed quite a few players in the transfer market to strengthen their midfield.
The Rangers squad is currently filled with a lot of options in midfield and it looks highly unlikely that they will be able to give enough game time to the youngster. The club has taken a huge punt by appointing a relatively inexperienced manager in Steven Gerrard, however, there is a new sense of hope among the fans since his appointment and he has made some smart signings in the transfer market so far.
The Teddy Bears have seen their derby rivals Celtic overtake them in the last few seasons and they will hope to stop their domination in the upcoming season. The Glaswegian club managed the most number of goals in the league last season but defensively they have been shoddy, to say the least. They had the worst defensive record for any of the top seven sides in Scottish top-flight last season.

Burt usually plays in the no. 10 role and that position is currently occupied by Josh Windass who had a good season for the Teddy Bears. Though Burt can play in a much-subdued role, it seems highly unlikely that he will be able to get regular first-team action. However, staying at the Ibrox for another year can develop his game further and he can have the chance to impress his new manager if he keeps on working hard.
