Leeds United are interested in securing the services of Middlesbrough forward Britt Assombalonga this summer. According to recent reports, the Peacocks are being linked with a move for the Congolese international during this summer transfer period. It is understood that the Boro boss Tony Pulis is prepared to listen to offers for his prized asset with the Whites eager to seal a move for him in this post-season.
The Congolese centre-forward has struggled to get enough first-team opportunities during the second half of last season which could have left him frustrated. He completed a £15m transfer to the Riverside Stadium from Nottingham Forest last summer but he has fallen down the pecking order following the emergence of Rudy Gestede and Patrick Bamford in Pulis’s first-team.
Assombalonga had featured in 47 matches for the Peacocks last season, scoring 15 goals while grabbing 2 assists in all competitions. He is exactly the kind of forward who can thrive under Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road if given enough opportunities in the Leeds first-team next term.
The Championship sensation has already proven himself in the second tier of English football which is why a potential move for him this summer could be a shrewd move for the Peacocks.
The West Yorkshire side had another forgetful campaign last season and will need to make some valuable acquisitions during the summer transfer window if they are to compete for a promotion place next season. The potential acquisition of Assombalonga will undoubtedly bolster Bielsa’s attacking options at Elland Road. The 25-year-old is exactly the kind of talent who can light up the Skybet Championship with his dazzling displays which is why the Peacocks should go all out to recruit him.
The Whites have some promising attacking talents such as Caleb Ekuban, Ezgjan Alioski, Hadi Sacko and Tyler Roberts competing for a place in Bielsa’s frontline. The addition of Assombalonga will improve their side significantly and add more competition for places within the Leeds squad.
