After a disappointing season, Matteo Darmian is now looking to depart from Manchester United as he looks to jumpstart his career. Three years at United saw Darmian accumulate the FA Cup, the EFL Cup and the Europa League during his cameo as a Red Devil.
Inter Milan now look as the frontrunners in securing the services of the Italian international who is keen to find a life away from Manchester. Italian champions Juventus were linked heavily with the pursuit of Darmian but have now ended interest in the defender. Following the purchase of Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo, Juventus have now closed the door on Darmian and have respectively opened up the way for Inter Milan to swoop for the wantaway right back.
Darmian is versatile which allows him to play as a right or left back even though he started his professional career playing as a centre-back. His ability to use both feet allowed him to progress further as a player which also witnessed a change of position on the field. He can operate as a wing-back as well.
The Nerazzurri need to strengthen their defensive line if they are to better their chances of lifting silverware next season and the possible signing of Darmian will only strengthen their cause. Inter have already added the likes of Kwadwo Asamoah from Juventus and more notably Radja Nainggolan from AS Roma. They are now looking to challenge to Juventus for the league title next season.
Manchester United would do well to sell Darmian as the player struggled to accumulate game time under his belt as he ended last season with just 8 appearances in Manchester United’s failed title charge which saw them well beaten by winners and direct rivals Manchester City. The “Noisy Neighbours” glided through the competitive waters and opposition waves to clench their 3rd Premier League trophy and overall 5th English top-flight title.
Consistent performers, Ashley Young and makeshift captain Antonio Valencia are currently indispensable to the United team. Luke Shaw and upcoming youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah are keen and likely to impress manager Jose Mourinho which makes a spot in the starting 11 for Darmian furthermore out of reach.
