Luke Shaw’s future at Manchester United was up in the air last season as Jose Mourinho publically pointed out his shortcomings which didn’t go down well with the player and his camp. It was expected that Shaw will leave Old Trafford in the summer. However, if latest reports are to be believed then the English left-back has recently turned down a move to Everton.
The Toffees are in need of a left back as Leighton Baines is way past his prime and might not be able to start every week for his side. Shaw, understandably, could have come up as the perfect backup to the 33-year-old Englishman. Besides, at Goodison Park, Shaw would have been able to resurrect his career as he would have got more playing opportunities.
It is believed that Jose Mourinho and Shaw don’t share the best relationship for obvious reasons. However, the Englishman who is set to enter the final year of his contract could be offered a new deal at the club.
The 23-year-old was lashed out by Mourinho after an FA Cup game against Brighton and Hove Albion. Shaw was substituted at half-time which is never a good sign for a player. Later on, after the victory, Mourinho said, ” Luke in the first half – every time they come in his corridor, the cross was coming and a dangerous situation was coming so I was not happy with his performance.’’
That left the player miffed and he felt that he was being bullied specifically by the Portuguese manager. However, it seems like the 23-year-old Englishman is keen to prove him wrong and establish himself once again as a regular starter.
Throughout the last season, Mourinho preferred Ashley Young over him who is not even traditionally a left back. The Red Devils are also linked with Danny Rose and if the Tottenham Hotspur man switches his allegiance, it will be expected that Shaw will part ways with the club.

Shaw was signed with a lot of gung-ho in 2014 by United. He was one of England’s brightest talents at that time and has already represented the national team 7 times. However, at United, his career didn’t reach the height which was expected and under Mourinho, he has been confined to the bench more often than not. Last season, he had made just 11 appearances in the Premier League, starting just 8 of those but it seems like he has a point to prove as he is not so keen now to leave Old Trafford after turning down a move to the Merseyside club.
