Anthony Martial is a composed person by nature. He exudes calmness and applies the same when on the pitch. The 22-year-old is used to carrying the pressures of representing Manchester United in England as well as being a constant figure in the French national team despite his omission from the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Under Jose Mourinho, the versatile winger struggled to cement a place in the starting line-up, which jeopardized his chance of picking up a winner’s medal at the World Cup with France. As reported by The Mirror, the English heavyweights United are looking to trigger the contract extension for the makeshift centre-forward, trying hold on to the exciting French prospect for the coming years. It is believed that if United are successful in their attempt, Martial will be a Red Devil until the year 2020.
The 22-year old was understood to be unsettled at Old Trafford as he struggled to gain the game time he thought he deserved. However, Jose Mourinho had different plans for the winger and kept him glued to a role as a substitute for the majority of the last season. Marcus Rashford was given more preference in games over Martial, which led many to believe that the Frenchman’s time at Old Trafford was drawing to a close.
The £36m United signing of 2015 failed to gain the trust of Jose and it cost him dearly as France went on to be successful without him with a squad many believed would consist of Martial’s presence. The Serie-A champions Juventus and league rivals Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in offering a life-line to the player, who has the ability to stake a claim at playing regular football for whichever team he is under contract with.
Martial is calm and collective on the ball when he runs at opposition defenders. He is direct in his approach to find the back of the net and keeps his head on his shoulders when in sight of goal. This increases his chances of finding the back of the net as compared to other players of his age who tend to get overwhelmed at the opportunity presented to them and usually scuff their chances when facing the goal.
His teammates believe in his abilities which prompted midfielder and United teammate, Ander Herrera, to make a claim that would only go on to boost Martial’s fleeting confidence. “He’s very talented,” said Herrera. “He can be one of the best players in the world and I think he’s very, very focused this season to smash it.”
Manchester United will be wise to hold onto the player and should give him the chance to prove his worth on the pitch. Squad depth is required when contending for silverware throughout the season and United must understand that they have a player in their ranks who is very capable of delivering for them on the big stage.

Martial must not lose hope yet and focus solely on regaining the trust of Jose Mourinho. A good run of time in the first XI will allow himto become the player people believe he can turn out to be.
