Mexico’s star at the 2018 World Cup, Hirving Lozano, seems destined for big things as quite a few Premier League clubs are queuing up for his signature. The latest entrants are English giants Manchester United as they look to bag him for £35.4m. Lozano currently plies his trade in the Eredivisie for PSV Eindhoven.
The Mexican came into the World Cup with good form behind him as he had racked up 19 goals and 11 assists in 34 appearances for his club. The player shot into limelight when he scored a brilliant goal against Germany in their opening encounter which gave them the victory against the defending Champions and thus started Germany’s downfall in the World Cup.
The Dutch side acquired him from the Mexican League last season for a fee which is said to be somewhere around the £13.7m-£18m mark and within one year, PSV can double their profit by selling the player. Lozano is traditionally a left winger but has found success down the right wing as well. Along with United, Barcelona are also said to be interested in the player which can ensue a bidding war for the 22-year old which PSV Eindhoven wouldn’t certainly mind.
Manchester United will be looking to go one step further next season as they finished second in the Premier League. However, the gap between them and their derby rivals was huge as they finished 19 points behind them. Jose Mourinho was lambasted by pundits and fans alike for his defensive tactics and the fact that they went trophyless didn’t help his cause.
Lozano will certainly be a good addition to United’s squad as we saw how devastating he can be, especially on the counter attacks. He uses his pace well and stretches the game from wide regions which also enables him to get in good positions to score goals. The player will be a perfect fit for United as we often see Mourinho use the tactics of ‘sitting back and hitting oppositions on the break’. The player is already used to that system as Mexico deployed a similar strategy for the World Cup.

Mourinho will be aware that if he fails to deliver something substantial, his job at Old Trafford might come under threat by the next year. Lozano is still just 22 so there is a lot of unfulfilled potential in him and maybe he can showcase that at one of the biggest clubs in the world as United prepare a bid for the Mexican winger.
