It is no secret that Manchester United are in the market to sign a centre-back and they have already been linked with the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Leonardo Bonucci. One more name can now be added to the list as strong sources from France are suggesting that the Red Devils are interested in landing Paris Saint Germain’s defensive ace Marquinhos.
It’s being reported that Giuliano Bertolucci, Marquinhos’ agent flew into England to meet the United officials and discuss regarding the future of his Brazilian client. The deal can happen as the French heavyweights are themselves looking to add a central defender and they are also said to be in the race to sign Italian warhorse Bonucci. That could mean Marquinhos could be surplus to requirements at the French club. Though it’s being reported that the player will like to continue his stint with the French club as he doesn’t want to leave France at this point in time.
United will be looking to bolster their squad as they look to put a bigger challenge in all competitions next season. The Red Devils ended up trophyless last term and their style of play was panned by fans and critics alike.
United had the second best defensive record in the last campaign but that was largely down to the fact that they defended in numbers and had one of the best goalkeepers in David De Gea. The likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are often error-prone even though they do show good promise on quite a few occasions.
Victor Lindelof might have had a good World Cup for Sweden but he has struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford and Marcos Rojo’s time at the club has been plagued by injuries and it is likely that Jose Mourinho won’t prefer him as a cemented starter. That leaves the club with only one standout defender in Eric Bailly and Mourinho is out in the market to choose his partner.

Marquinhos was part of the Brazil World Cup squad but didn’t find game time as Tite preferred the pairing of Miranda and Thiago Silva. The Brazilian has never played in the Premier League so that can be a huge challenge for the 24-year-old. He will definitely be a decent bet for Mourinho given his talent and age. However, he might have to be a bit patient with him given the fact that he has never played in the English top flight.
