Manchester United have confirmed the signing of 35-year-old goalkeeper, Lee Grant from Stoke City on a two-year contract. Speaking to the press after the switch, the Englishman said, “Moving to Manchester United has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. This was an opportunity that I couldn’t let pass and I’m thrilled to become a part of such a historic club.”
“I’ve enjoyed every moment of my career so far and I’m now ready to continue learning and improving alongside some of the best players in the game. But at the same time, I intend to use my experience to help the team whenever possible.”
Grant understandably, will serve as a third-choice keeper for the Red Devils behind the likes of David De Gea and Sergio Romero. Joel Pereira is expected to be sent out on loan to gain more first-team experience and Sam Johnstone has already been sold off to West Brom for £6.5m.
Jose Mourinho likes to keep all of his pieces in place as he made two key signings in Diogo Dalot and Fred over the past month. The Red Devils boss is on the lookout for more additions in order to win major honours next term.
After finishing 19 points behind their bitter rivals in the title race and losing to Chelsea in the FA Cup final, the Portuguese tactician is out for blood and to prove his doubters wrong. Since being unveiled as the United boss, Mourinho has failed to deliver with silverware and has been at the end of heavy criticism recently.
He has struggled to put together a winning run despite spending boatloads of cash over the last two transfer windows. Now he will have to prove himself to the Manchester United faithful and to Ed Woodward.
Signing Grant is a quality move as it somehow works out an approach from all sides. Bagging the cash from Johnstone’s sale will help Mourinho in making more additions and Perreira gets to resume his footballing development, instead of just warming the Old Trafford benches.
The veteran shot-stopper impressed for the Potters in the 2016/17 season by making a total of 30 appearances and winning the club’s player of the season award. He could only manage 3 games with City last season due to Jack Butland’s untouchable form in between the sticks.

He has 22 caps to his name for the England youth sides and will add a lot of experience into the Red Devils club ranks.
