Reports have surfaced linking Manchester City with the 19-year-old Australian sensation, Daniele Arzani. The winger is currently tied to one of City’s sister clubs, Melbourne City FC in his home nation and is touted to be the next star of the Asian subcontinent. Arzani was on display in the 2018 FIFA World Cup where he showed off his new-age skills and tricks during his second-half substitute appearances in three of the Socceroos’ group stage matches.
After his country’s elimination from the World Cup, Arzani was asked about his immediate future and he said, “I do not know what happens. Now I will go straight to London and meet my agent and spend a few days there trying to clear everything up. (There is) nothing concrete yet.”
City’s chief executive, Ferran Soriano has a golden rule of developing more talents from within the club just like the model used at Barcelona. We have seen countless talented youngsters get churned out of the La Masia academy, where some make it into the Barca first team while most others get traded away for hefty amounts of cash – all reinvested in the club’s international and domestic success.
The Citizens like any ambitious side have set themselves apart by winning the league title thrice in the past decade. They have spent the necessary amounts to convert themselves into a global brand and one of the best teams in England.
Pep Guardiola won the side the Premier League title and the Carabao Cup in the most dominating fashion last season. City finished 19 points ahead of their bitter rivals in the English top-flight and dealt out a 3-goal thrashing to Arsenal in the League Cup final.
Now the club is under the microscope and it is the little adjustments they make in their current setup that will set them up as an elite club in the future. Paying close attention to the club’s academy is the best way to secure their place at the very top and Arzani could be the one grand product of the gruelling process.
We have seen Aaron Mooy succeed in the English game with Huddersfield Town and also bring in £8m in cash to the Etihad. In the current market, an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal could be of even higher value if developed properly in the right environment.
Arzani could also do the impossible and catch a glimpse of Guardiola’s attention. Most fans would agree with the sentiments of the teenager’s compatriot and former Chelsea goalkeeper, Mark Schwarzer as he said, “I wouldn’t go to Man City or Juve or a big club like that because he won’t play.”

If the youngster does board the flight to Etihad, he should be quick to find himself a new home on a loan spell. Gathering experience with regular first-team football is a prerequisite for turning into a global superstar.
