Manchester City are plotting a move for VfB Stuttgart centre-back Benjamin Pavard this summer. According to recent reports, the Citizens are hoping to secure the services of the Bundesliga defender during this summer transfer period. It is understood that City are on the lookout for a replacement for Vincent Kompany and have set their eyes on the French sensation ahead of a potential move in the summer.
Pavard has been one of the stars of Didier Deschamps’ French side who are taking part in the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and his eye-catching displays have caught the eyes of City chiefs who are eager to seal a move for him in this post-season. However, the English champions are not the only ones looking to snap up the French youngster and will face stiff competition from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in pursuit of the Bundesliga ace.
The 22-year-old scored a screamer for the France national team in their World Cup match versus Argentina last month and now, Pep Guardiola is looking to lure him to the Etihad Stadium ahead of the new season. The French star had made a total of 36 appearances for Stuttgart last season with one goal to his name in all competitions.
Pavard is exactly the kind of player who can flourish under the expert guidance of Guardiola at the Manchester club.
City managed to achieve a domestic double last term when they won the English top-flight as well as the Carabao Cup. However, Guardiola would know that his side needs strengthening in this ongoing transfer window if they are to maintain their dominance in English football.
The addition of Pavard will definitely bolster Guardiola’s defensive options at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens has some top-class defenders in their ranks such as Vincent Kompany, John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi and Aymeric Laporte competing for a place in their starting XI. The potential acquisition of Pavard will undoubtedly improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the City squad.

The French talent is extremely versatile and primarily operates as a centre-half but can also operate as a right-back or in right midfield. He can also be deployed as a holding midfielder which makes him a perfect fit for Guardiola’s side. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Pavard and whether he ends up plying his trade at Manchester before the start of the new season.
