Liverpool‘s young star Harry Wilson has signed a new long-term deal with the Merseyside club even though he has found it tough to break into the first team. The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season with Hull City where he helped the Tigers from getting dragged into the relegation race.
The winger had made 13 appearances for them and managed a haul of seven goals and four assists. Such numbers wouldn’t have gone unnoticed with the Liverpool hierarchy and they have rewarded the Welshman with a new and improved contract.
Wilson recently impressed in a preseason game against Chester as he scored twice in a 7-0 win for the Reds. The player also wants to stick at Anfield even though he will be aware that getting into the senior team will be tough. He had earlier said,” The dream of mine is to play regularly for Liverpool’s first team. At the moment I am getting the chance to train at Melwood and get minutes in the friendlies and my aim is to impress the manager and stay here. If that’s not possible then we will weigh up the options and go from there.”
“If you are in his training squad then he’s given you the chance to impress him. I have to make sure I use that chance. Over the coming weeks, I am sure we’ll sit down and see what the plans are.”- he further added.
After signing the new contract Wilson expressed his happiness by saying,” I’m delighted to sign the new deal. When it got offered to me, I was desperate to get everything sorted so I could sign it fairly early on in the pre-season because I want to focus on playing football.”
Wilson is a versatile forward as he can play on either flank or as a secondary striker. At just 16, he made his senior debut for his national side Wales and is regarded as a huge prospect for his country.
However, it will be extremely difficult for the youngster to come close to first-team football as Liverpool currently have one of the most potent attacking trios in the world.
It’s good to see the player’s determination to stay and fight for his place even though he knows that he is fighting against the odds. Liverpool will be aware that they have a huge talent at their disposal and they cannot yet let him leave without giving him enough opportunities to prove himself.

Giving him a new contract is certainly a step in the right direction as it shows that the club trusts in his abilities and potential. However, at this age, he needs to be playing regular first-team football to gain more valuable experience and we might as well see Liverpool send the winger back on loan to other clubs later in the season.
