Liverpool have reportedly been linked with Swansea City’s Jordan Ayew in less than a week from the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City. The Swans are looking to trade both the Ayew brothers for around £12m this summer but have also rejected a £8m offer from Fulham for Jordan Ayew. Obviously, the younger of the two must be worth a whole lot more in the current market after his past season performances for the Welsh outfit.
The 26-year-old finished the 2017/18 campaign with 11 goals and was also the highest scorer in the Swansea City ranks. He also set up 4 more assists to help the club push for a miraculous relegation survival. There should be no doubt over the growth he has experienced over the past few seasons and through his 80 Premier League games. Unfortunately, Carlos Carvalhal could not save City from the drop to the Championship and that pretty much ended Ayew’s immediate future with the club. The attacker is at the peak of his career and has managed to draw the attention of top-tier clubs for a reason.
Despite being a forward, he can appear from almost any position in the final third. With his pace and ball control, Ayew can be highly impactful from the wings as well. He has 46 caps and 12 goals registered to his name for the Ghana national team, and a single one for the U20 side.
The 26-year-old can be lethal on the counter and also in the opposition penalty box. He is particularly explosive on the run and can beat defenders with his close control. Ayew has come a long way since his early start in the Olympique Marseille ranks.
The Ghanaian was born in the city of Marseille, France and joined the local club’s youth academy in 2006. He scored his first professional contract three years later and also made his debut against Lorient. Eventually, he managed 22 goals and 17 assists in 147 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit, before making the switch to Aston Villa in the summer of 2015. Ayew has now witnessed two relegations with both the Swans and the Villans over the past three seasons.
He could serve as a backup in Jurgen Klopp’s squad next term but his senior team involvement might be severely limited with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Dominic Solanke and Shaqiri in the club.

Nothing can be said on whether Klopp is really considering more attacking reinforcements but the German must be feeling ambitious to build on Liverpool’s prolific Champions League run from last season.
