Loris Karius’ Liverpool nightmare looks set to continue as a run of horror showings have left Coach Jurgen Klopp looking at the salvation of the transfer market to reinforce his goalkeeper issues. Having Karius between the sticks seems to be a risky approach as the goalkeeper has suffered a drop in form and perhaps confidence too, ever since his woeful and costly mistakes during their Heavyweight clash with Reigning European champions Real Madrid. Liverpool are said to be on the lookout for potential replacements with Jack Butland lined up to battle it out with Karius to boast the right of slipping in the Reds’ jersey with the number 1 printed on its back.
The Englishman makes himself big in front of goal and is always alert to any danger that looms within the penalty box. He is quick to react and his reflexes are admirable. Butland distributes the ball well from the back and is good in the air.
Despite his best efforts, however, the English 2nd choice keeper failed to keep his Stoke City team from facing the despair of life outside the Premier League. The Potters failed to collaborate amongst themselves as a unit and booked themselves a berth in the EFL Championship.
Liverpool fans view Butland at par with Loris Karius and a move for the signature of the England international is sure to raise a few eyebrows from the Red half of Merseyside and fans across the globe. What Liverpool need right now is someone who can go that extra mile and pull off a last-ditch horizontal stretch to ensure nothing goes into the back of their net on his watch.
Rivals Manchester United have one such keeper and Liverpool will do well to scout their replacement for Karius. Second and Third choice keepers Simon Mignolet and Danny Ward, respectively, are still to convince Klopp of their showing in front of goal as Mignolet was eventually surpassed by Karius at a place at the heart of goal while Ward failed to make more than a single appearance at Anfield during the forgone Premier League season.

Butland will have to keep his head down and focus primarily at regaining the trust of England manager Gareth Southgate if he plans to start ahead of Jordan Pickford at the next edition of the World Cup. That being said, he needs to work extra hard on a daily basis to win the trust of the Liverpool coaching staff and that of Klopp and his fellow teammates if a move finalises. If he is successful there, a place in the starting lineup for the Reds will be sure to follow.
