Leeds United’s resolve to hold on to their forward Kemar Roofe will be tested as West Bromwich Albion want to bring him at the Hawthorns. Roofe was the top scorer for his side in the Championship last term as he managed 11 goals. None of the other players even managed to touch the 10 goal mark. Pierre Michel Lasogga came second with 9 goals who has gone back to his parent club Hamburg after his loan stint at Elland Road.
The Whites are looking for a new beginning under Marcelo Bielsa and the team has a lot of areas to look after and improve. One of that is solving the striker’s situation and the Whites cannot certainly afford to lose a player of Roofe’s calibre who still has two years of his contract with the West Yorkshire outfit.
The 25-year-old started his footballing career with the Baggies, however, he wasn’t good enough to break into the first team and since then he has been plying his trade in the lower divisions of English Football. At Leeds, he has been able to show his worth and has slowly become an integral member of the squad.
The player started out as a winger last season but slowly moved on to play the role of a lone striker and he did find some success. He was chosen for that role not because he was a great option but he seemed like the only decent forward option the side had.
Losing him will be a disaster from Leeds’ point of view and quite a few clubs are vying for his signature. The Peacocks are already in desperate need of a striker or two and they cannot afford to lose one decent forward option they already have.
Roofe’s best personal season came with Oxford United in the 2015-16 season where he was the League 2 player of the year and managed to score 26 goals. The Whites will be hoping that after scoring 14 goals in all competitions in the last campaign, the 25-year-old will touch the 20 goal mark in the upcoming season and bring them that much closer to challenge for the playoff spot.

A move to West Brom can be tempting for the player as they are better suited to bounce back to the Premier League at the moment. It is important that the Whites show ambition in the transfer market and bring an able strike partner for Roofe to keep him at the club at least for another season.
