Leeds United’s young forward Mallik Wilks has joined Doncaster Rovers on a six-month loan deal. The player had spent the second half of last season on loan at Grimsby Town and before that he spent it with Accrington Stanley who won the League Two last season by finishing on top of the table.
He made 30 appearances for the two teams last season in all competitions and returned with a tally of 5 goals. Wilks is a versatile forward as he can play as a centre-forward or down the left wing and is blessed with great pace and skills. However, he is yet to establish himself close to first-team football with the Whites. The 19-year-old has made just one senior team appearance for United since he joined the club in 2016. He made his debut in January 2017 when he came on as a substitute against Sutton United in FA Cup encounter.
The player seemed happy with a move to the League One outfit Doncaster, he said,” The gaffer came to watch me last season whilst I was at Accrington and he was at Peterborough, so I knew he had been after me for a while, he is a good manager and I know he will get the best out of me.”
“I see Doncaster getting a promotion to the Championship and I want to play a part in that, I won the league with Accrington last season and I want to keep progressing. Doncaster Rovers are a real community club and I am delighted to be here.”- he added further.
The player was quite aware that he will find it tough to break into the first eleven, so from his career’s point of view, moving to Doncaster and playing for them regularly was a step in the right direction. It’s clear that Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t see him in his latest plans, however, a good six months at Rovers might make a case for himself in the Leeds squad when he joins them back in January.

The Whites are in desperate need of a forward and they have been linked with quite a few. However, none of them seems close to being completed and letting a young striker leave might come back to bite them. There is still enough time for the Peacocks in the transfer market to make some useful acquisitions and a striker or two will certainly be on top of the shopping list for Bielsa.
