AC Milan’s defender Leonardo Bonucci has reportedly asked for a transfer request as he looks to find a way out of the club. This news can come as a massive boost to Manchester United as they have been constantly linked with him in the ongoing transfer market.
The fallen Italian giants failed to qualify for the Champions League and have been banned from participating in the Europa League as well as they failed to comply with Financial Fair Play rules. A player of Bonucci’s stature will fit into most teams around Europe and in the latter stages of his career, he will surely like to play in the elite competitions.
Manchester United fell 19 points short of their rivals Manchester City in the last campaign as they won the title on a canter. Jose Mourinho will be aware that he will need to deliver something substantial in terms of trophies in the upcoming season. His style of play and tactics have been panned by critics and fans alike and his job will surely be in danger if he fails to deliver a trophy for another season.
The 31-year-old had made 51 appearances in all competitions last season and went on to show that he is still good enough to play week in week out. However, the Premier League will be a big test of his substance. His qualities are unparalleled and even in this day and age, he can turn out to be a decent short-term signing for Mourinho.
Bonucci has played most of his football at Juventus where he has won numerous honours. Under Gennaro Gattuso, AC Milan finished sixth last season and that could trigger his departure from the club.
United had the second best defensive record in the league but that was largely down to the fact that they defended in numbers and had a fantastic last line of defence in David De Gea. The likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are inconsistent and both of them have a mistake in their game.

Marcos Rojo’s time at Old Trafford has been plagued with injuries and it is clear that Mourinho doesn’t rate him much. Victor Lindelof was signed with a lot of gung-ho but he has failed to get used to the dynamics of the Premier League. Given the situation at the back, Bonucci will definitely be a handy addition to Mourinho’s roster as he looks to bolster his squad for the challenges of the upcoming season.
