Huddersfield Town have made as many as eight signings in the transfer market as David Wagner will be aware that staying up in the Premier League again will be a big challenge for them. They stayed afloat last season against all odds and ended up at the 16th position. Now they are looking to add another player in their repertoire as they are linked with a move for Everton‘s midfielder Davy Klaassen.
The Dutch midfielder was signed last season only by Ronald Koeman for a sum of £23.5m. However, after the sacking of Koeman, Klaassen fell down the pecking order as Sam Allardyce didn’t include him much in the playing eleven. The former Ajax captain was signed with a lot of gung-ho given his technical abilities but he failed to establish himself in his first season in England.
It’s believed that the Merseyside club is looking to recoup pretty much all the amount which they paid to Ajax as they value him at £23m but it remains to be seen whether Terriers will pay such an amount for a player who featured in just 7 games in the Premier League.
Klaassen is an attacking midfielder but can play in a deeper and central role as well. He is known for his ability to find space in the middle of the field from where he looks to influence play. The 25-year-old is calm and composed on the ball which allows him to pick the right pass. One can say that he has been dealt a bad hand at Goodison Park as he never got enough chances to showcase his actual worth.
The Toffees have gone on to sign Richarlison for big money and that could mean that they will look to recover some amount in the transfer market by selling other players. Meanwhile, Marco Silva has given a clear indication that there will be some departures from the club.

With Huddersfield, Klaassen will have to do ‘more off the ball stuff’ as the Terriers are likely to play most of their games without much of the possession. The Dutchman is physically strong and robust so one can see him play in a more central role alongside Aaron Mooy who was a revelation last season. However, it will be interesting to see whether Wagner will spend upwards of £20m for a player who is yet to prove himself in the Premier League.
