Liverpool are off to a great start this pre-season, as they managed to put seven past Chester, in their first pre-season game of the summer. Jurgen Klopp would have been excited to see what his team had to offer on the night but the German continues to be active in the transfer market, looking for players who can improve the squad at Anfield.
However, he also has an eye on improving the club’s academy and has been linked with a number of exciting youngsters for a move this summer. One such player, now close to a move to Merseyside is Ki-Jana Hoever.
He is a product of the academy at AZ Alkmaar, a top-flight club in the Netherlands. At just 16, the Dutch starlet has already established himself as one of the brightest prospects in the country and joined Dutch giants Ajax in 2014. He has shown progress with each passing year and has already impressed the hierarchy at the club, who believe that he is not too far away from the first-team action.
The Dutch wonderkid has four caps for the U15 Netherlands side and is now a crucial part of the U16s, where he has already made six starts. He has two goals and an assist to his name in just 13 Eredivisie appearances last season for the U17s and is slowly making a name for himself at the highest level.
He is versatile and technically gifted, can play as a centre-back or as a right-back and is a player who is certainly ready for the biggest tests. He has shown great promise everytime he has taken the field and has impressed scouts from a number of clubs in England.
It is claimed that the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have all registered their interest in the player in the past but it is Liverpool, who look like they will snap him up this summer.
The Reds have kept an eye on the teenager since the turn of the year and are impressed with what he has to offer. It is understood that he will link up with the U17s at the Liverpool academy. However, it is believed that he has what it takes to make an impact even on Neil Critchley’s U23s squad, which can easily be considered as one of the best in the country at the moment.
