The DailyMail are reporting that Fulham are making a bold attempt to bring in German winger Andre Schurrle to Craven Cottage. The former Chelsea star could be a part of the Fulham dressing room as early as today after the London based club held further talks with Borussia Dortmund over a potential deal that will see Schurrle make a return to the English top flight. He is set to undergo his medical today after flying to London yesterday night.
The winger has been listed for a transfer by the Dortmund board and was offered to the likes of Everton and Crystal Palace. Serie A team Lazio were also believed to be interested in him. However, they now seem to have lost to Fulham as the London club is on the verge of signing Schurrle.
Fulham are looking to build a squad capable of surviving the demands of the Premier League as manager Slavisa Jokanovic is hoping to help the Whites cement a fixed stay in the English top tier. The Cottagers have already captured Jean Michael-Seri, Maxime Marchand and goalkeeper Fabricio Ramirez but now look to conclude a deal for Schurrle. Newcastle United striker Aleksandr Mitrovic is also close to joining his new team-mates at Craven Cottage.
Schurrle played at Chelsea for a season and a half before being deemed “surplus to requirements” by then manager Jose Mourinho who signed Juan Cuadrado as a replacement. Since signing for the Blues in 2013, the German made 44 Premier League appearances for the West London club and found the back of the net 11 times.
He failed to tie down a spot on the team as the growing and eye-catching performances of Eden Hazard and Willian prevented the World Cup winning star from making more of an impact on the field. He signed for Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg during the 2016 January transfer window.
Schurrle will bring speed to the Fulham team and add depth to Jokanovic’s squad. The 27-year-old is primarily a left-winger but can also perform the duties of a right-winger or centre-forward with ease. He is a good finisher and is unstoppable in 1v1 situations most of the time. He has an abundance of Premier League experience which will go a long way in helping Fulham battle the relegation drop.
