Everton are plotting a move for Barcelona centre-back Yerry Mina this summer. According to recent reports, the Toffees are interested in securing the services of the Colombian international during this summer transfer period. It is understood that Mina could be set for a move to Goodison Park, just six months after joining the Catalans.
Some sources are now claiming that the Blues of Merseyside are close to agreeing on a €24m deal to bring the Colombian to English football. Mina signed for Barca from Palmeiras during the January transfer window but he struggled to get enough game time under Ernesto Valverde last season.
Hence, a move to Merseyside will definitely help the player gain some more first-team opportunities in the coming years. Mina had featured in 6 matches for Barca last season. However, he made a great impact for the Colombian national team in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. His goal-scoring contributions helped his side make it through to the knockout stages of the competition.
The 23-year-old is exactly the kind of prospect who can thrive under the guidance of Marco Silva at Goodison Park. He is aerially dominant, can read the game well and is also a good passer which makes him an ideal fit for the Merseyside club.
The Merseyside outfit had an underwhelming season last term as they could only manage to finish in the 8th place of the English top-flight. Marco Silva’s team needs some injection of quality during this ongoing transfer window if they are to progress and clinch a European place next term.
The potential acquisition of Mina will undoubtedly bolster Silva’s defensive options at Goodison Park. Everton have an array of defenders which include Ashley Williams, Phil Jagielka, Mason Holgate and Michael Keane vying for a place in Silva’s starting XI. The addition of Mina will add more competition for places within the Toffees squad and improve their team significantly going into the new season as they look to close the gap to the Premier League‘s Top 6.

At 23, the Colombian talent still has his best years ahead of him which the Toffees could look to benefit from, in the next few years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Mina and whether Everton are successful in convincing him to make a switch to Goodison Park this summer.
