Everton will be looking for a new beginning under Marco Silva as they look to challenge the big boys of the Premier League next season. Silva has been brought in to play an attractive brand of football and he will be under pressure to deliver the goods as we saw that even an eighth-place finish from Sam Allardyce couldn’t save his job at the club.
The Toffees are looking to bring in reinforcements to their squad and they are currently being linked with a move for Ramy Bensebaini who plies his trade in Ligue 1 for Stade Rennais. The 23-year-old had made 33 appearances in all competitions in the last campaign and if latest reports are to be believed then the Merseyside club is nearing a £13.3m move for the defender.
Everton has parted ways with Ramiro Funes Mori who went on to join Villarreal. Ashley Williams is also likely to make a move away from Goodison Park as he himself has admitted that he has been left frustrated at the club. That will leave the club thin in the centre back department so signing a defender will be the topmost priority for the club.
The 23-year-old defender’s contract with the French club is set to run until 2020 but it is expected that he will part ways with the club this summer.
The Merseyside club used the centre back pairing of Michael Keane and Phil Jagielka for the most part of last season. Jagielka is currently on the wrong side of his thirties so he won’t be expected to start on a weekly basis for his side next season. He is more suited to be a squad player at this point in time of his career.
The Algerian is a strong aggressive defender who isn’t shy of getting into challenges. However, he needs to bring more composure to his game and it will be interesting to see whether he will be able to play out from the back as Marco Silva will be expected to deploy possession-based tactics for the upcoming season.
Bensebaini is a versatile player as he can fill in the left back role as well. He has even played in a defensive midfielder role and his versatility will be a big asset for Marco Silva. However, the Toffees are set to face competition from German outfit Stuttgart for the signature of the player. It remains to be seen which club the player will opt to join.
