Wilmar Barrios had a memorable World Cup campaign in Russia with some eye-catching performances, especially in the round of 16 against England. There is no surprise that the defensive midfielder’s credibility has taken a significant rise as a host of clubs are interested in purchasing the stubborn tackler from Boca Juniors.
TyC Sports report London clubs Tottenham Hotspur along with Chelsea are looking to secure the services of the Columbian international. There is, however, another Premier League club that has shown the most interest in Barrios and are willing to wait until the end of the year to help the player make the transition from Argentina to England, in the form of Everton along with their new manager Marco Silva.
Barrios will look to continue at Boca until December and then look to see if there are any remaining suitors who are willing to pay the €18m fee that Boca are demanding for the player.
The defensive midfielder is versatile in nature and can be deployed at central midfield for his ability to control the speed and tempo at which the game is being played. His speed and crossing abilities allow him to settle in well at right back. He is an ideal player to have on one’s team as his ability to cover different positions during a long and demanding season can go far in determining the required depth of the squad.
Everton are in need of a player like him as they are still yet to find someone commanding to position at the heart of the pitch. He will blend in well into Marco Silva’s style of play and will be deployed as the defensive rock placed just before the two centre-backs.
The Boca Juniors player is a hard player to come face to face with as he is not afraid to put in a strong tackle on the ball. He uses both of his feet well when it comes to getting blocks in or intercepting a stray pass. He plays without fear and every team needs at least one player with his sort of aggressiveness. Someone to rile up the opposition and eventually getting a reaction out of that player and causing the said player to lose focus of the individual tasks assigned to him.
Working on his finishing will have to be prioritized in order for Barrios to develop into an all rounded player. The physical aspect of the Premier League will seem like home to him as the Argentine league is also physical and Barrios seems to have gotten along well with it.

Everton would do well to have a player like Wilmar in their ranks. It is going to be a testing season for the Toffees and their new manager, who will look to turn the tide in his team’s favour after last season’s conundrum and having a player with the abilities of the Colombian will definitely help his cause.
