Having taken over Everton from Sam Allardyce this summer, Marco Silva will be a man under pressure next season, as the fans of the club will demand some progress from the past few campaigns. The squad at Goodison Park needs reshaping to make an impact on the top flight next season but the manager is yet to make a single addition to his squad this summer.
With just over two weeks left in the transfer market, Everton fans might be in for a busy end to the window, as they continue to be linked with some of the finest stars in Europe. One such player Silva is now determined to land is Arsenal star Danny Welbeck.
The English international started his senior career at Old Trafford and spent six years at the club, registering 29 goals and 21 assists in 142 outings for the club in all competitions. He was snapped up by Arsenal in 2014 and he has a similar scoring record there as well, as he accumulated 27 goals and 14 assists in 112 games for the Gunners.
He also has 16 goals in 40 outing for the Three Lions and is an established striker in the country. He is a natural finisher, who can dominate even the best of defenders but his injury crisis in the last few seasons has seen him lose confidence and his form as a result.
Last season, he had made 12 Premier League starts, picking up five goals and two assists but the arrivals of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has certainly pushed him down the pecking order. He only got 11 minutes of action in the World Cup in Russia and will certainly be looking for a new challenge next season.
He is now 27 and will hit his prime in the next few years and it is now being reported that Everton are interested in signing him this summer. A story from The Mirror claims that Silva has Wilfried Zaha, Richarlison and Welbeck on his transfer wish list for this summer.
With Cenk Tosun struggling to make a real impact on the first team, Welbeck could easily be a first choice striker at the club next season. He will help Dominic Calvert Lewin and co. to grow into a first-team role and the freedom he will get under Silva, will bring his confidence and form back in no time.
He has just a year left on his current contract and will be available on the cheap. But do you think he is the right man for the Toffees?
