After a less than impressive campaign in the top flight, Everton are now desperate to get back to playing European football consistently in the future. They have appointed Marco Silva to replace Sam Allardyce this summer and have already made a couple of smart additions to the squad, to help them compete with the best next season.
They are still linked with some exciting stars and one such player, they are inching closer to is Kieran Tierney.
A transfer target for almost every big club in England, Tierney has slowly established himself as one of the best left-backs in Europe at the moment. He broke into the first team at Celtic in 2014 and took his time to cement his place in the first team. But in the last couple of seasons, he has taken his game to the next level, helping Celtic improve their dominance in Scotland.
He registered four goals and an assist in 48 games in all competitions and was the standout player for the Celts when they met PSG in the group stage of the Champions League last season. A gifted footballer, with an excellent cross waiting in his feet, Tierney is a strong and defensively astute full-back, who loves to dominate his flank.
He is quick to make interceptions, is adept at soaking up the pressure and his determination along with his confidence, making a star at such a tender age. Tierney is still 21 but is regarded as one of the best players in his role already. He is also the first choice left-back for his country and has nine caps to show for it.
He is an established star and it does not come as a surprise that clubs in England have retained their interests in him this summer. However, Marco Silva’s determination to land Tierney might finally pay off with reports claiming that Everton have ‘agreed on a deal in principle’ to sign the Scottish international this summer.
Celtic want close to £25m but his lack of exposure outside Glasgow might see him go for a little less. But Ian McGarry, a football recruitment consultant now claims that Everton are not too far away from landing Tierney this summer.
With Leighton Baines turning 33, Tierney is viewed as a long-term replacement for the English defender. The Celtic ace is expected to walk into the first team over Martina and will get a chance to learn from the experience of Baines, which will help him in his progress.

At less than £25m, Tierney is an absolute steal and if Everton can get this deal over the line, it might be one of the most productive transfers of this summer.
