Fenerbahce have pushed on the accelerator for signing Rangers’ star forward Alfredo Morelos. According to reports in Turkey, director of football Damien Comolli has travelled to Scotland to talk regarding the future of the Colombian striker. Morelos will certainly be an important player for Steven Gerrard in the upcoming campaign and he will be dreading to see his young starlet leave in the summer.
Morelos hit the ground running in his first season as he managed 18 goals and 8 assists at the Ibrox. He was an important player for them as they finished third and scored the most number of goals in the Scottish Premiership last season. However, these latest developments can derail all their plans if the 22-year-old striker part ways with the club after just one season in Glasgow.
The Gers look weak in attack without Morelos so it is expected that even if they manage to keep hold of the player, Steven Gerrard will go after another striker in the summer. In worst case scenario, he might have to end up going for two strikers. So we look at 3 plausible options Gerrard can bring in to challenge their derby rivals Celtic in the upcoming season.
Umar Sadiq
The AS Roma striker has lit up the scoring charts at various youth levels and now is the time for the Nigerian to shine at the big stage. Steven Gerrard has confirmed an interest in the striker and it is likely that the Teddy Bears will get him on a season-long loan deal. Sadiq has all the facets to his game to be successful at the top level and he can play as a traditional no. 9 in Gerrard’s squad.
Rhian Brewster
Gerrard has worked with England’s u-17 World Cup star and Brewster will certainly be looking for first-team opportunities at this point in time. He is likely to get very limited chances at Liverpool as they have enough firepower on the attacking front. Gerrard can make use of his relationship with the Reds and he can get him on a season-long loan as Liverpool are expected to hold on to him given his goal-scoring prowess.
