Everton are reportedly the latest among a number of clubs who are in pursuit of the Mexican winger and 2018 FIFA World Cup star, Hirving Lozano. The 22-year-old is lighting up the world stage by helping his country get through to the knockout stages of the international tournament. He scored a brilliant goal in the opening game of the World Cup against Germany which secured three crucial points for his country.
He also set up Javier Hernandez in the 2-1 win over South Korea to help seal his nation’s place in the knockout stages of the competition. Lozano also scored 6 times in the qualifiers and is currently sitting on a potential multi-million pound move to the Premier League.
When asked about his future after the World Cup, the winger said, “I think right now the most important thing is to think about the matches happening right now, those that are coming up and take them on step by step like you always have to do.”
A number of Premier League clubs including Arsenal have been scouting the winger for quite some time. Arsene Wenger pegged the youngster to be an immediate replacement for Alexis Sanchez back in January.
Lozano is currently under contract with Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven until the summer of 2023. At one time, it was reported that his release clause is in the region of £30m, almost double of what the Dutch outfit paid for him last summer (£13.7m-£18m).
He ended the previous season with 19 goals and 11 assists in 34 appearances, helping his side to the league title with record points. At one point he was at the very top of the league’s scoring charts but ended up finishing 4th.
Lozano spent three years in the Mexican league which has greatly benefitted his footballing development. Prior to his move to the Philips Stadium, the 22-year-old started out in the Pachuca youth ranks and played 140 games for the side, scoring on 41 occasions. It might be the right time for him to consider the next step in his playing career.
Everton are in desperate need of competent wingers and Lozano might just be a guaranteed starter at Goodison Park. Silva cannot solely depend on Theo Walcott or Yannick Bolasie to lead the club’s attack.
Nikola Vlasic is not ready for regular first-team football and is more of a sporadic option for the new manager. Bolasie has struggled to replicate his heroics from his Crystal Palace days so far.
There needs to be a speedy figure who will be able to stretch the pitch but also capable enough to add to the scoring list. Lozano is the right man to hedge your bets upon and Silva should definitely go all in for the winger.
